I was very excited to see that the Texas Association of Health Underwriters' annual convention received a lot of publicity! It is amazing what a few press releases and follow-up phone calls can do. But, if you stick with it, follow through, and do all that you can.. things will start going your way.
All of this only reiterates what I have learned already: what you do today will, indeed, pay off tomorow.
Hope everyone has a great weekend and gets to enjoy the beautiful weather!

Papa John's latest PR stint: 23 cent pizzas
What if someone were to tell you a pizza chain was going to sell 23 cent pizzas... for an entire day? Better yet, what if it were from Papa Johns?
Pizza is far from my favorite food, but I know I'd be eating a lot of it if I could get my hands on that deal - especially since every 23 cents spent on the pizza would be going to a good cause (Cavaliers Youth Fund). Also, another $10,000 from Papa Johns would be heading to this same youth fund.
But some people just don't want to have any part of this deal. There has to be a pretty good reason for me not to eat a whole pizza for 23 cents.
Here's the "good reason" why some people won't bite:
A Papa John's franchise in Washington D.C. decided to distribute t-shirts to Washington Wizards fans which named Lebron James as a "crybaby," with his respective #23 on the back side. Apparently, some Wizards player called him this name during a playoff game since James kept complaining about hard fouls. Naturally, Wizards fans started making fun of this. And some Wizards fans couldn't get enough of it - especially the one who owned a Papa Johns in D.C., deciding to make shirts making fun of "crybaby" Lebron.
While I really like Lebron, both as an athlete and role model, I don't see the huge deal about Papa Johns making these shirts. Sure, I think it wasn't the smartest move by the D.C. franchise. But am I going to stop buying pizza from ALL Papa Johns just because of ONE store that is not even near me? Probably not. The fact that the D.C. PJ called Lebron a crybaby wasn't any other of the chains' fault. But, I'm sure that the NE Ohio chains could get used to these PR stints by idiotic D.C. chains - more business for them!
For such a "bad taste" Papa Johns left in some Cavs fans' mouths, this was a pretty good PR move for them - one that I'm sure most people will be hungry for.

Polar Bears and Global Warming?
Recently at work, CBS (or some local news station) posed this question to viewers: When it comes to gas prices, what is your breaking point? I didn't know " when polar bears are added to the Endangered Species list" would soon be the jist of my answer.
This just in: Any type of species can now be added to the Endangered Species list if their habitat is being "ruined" by "global warming." Oh, polar bears are now thriving more than ever? AND they have survived warm climates in the past, dating back to 700-1100 AD? Minor details. Today's polar bears clearly can't contend with Earth's scorching, hot climate.
Any person reading up on this polar bear situation needs to know a couple things. First, the polar bears being listed as "endangered" is not simply because they are dying off in numnbers - if anything, there are more of them today than before the 70s (in the 70s, a hunting restriction was imposed on polar bears). These furry white creatures being added to the list is merely an excuse/outlet for environmentalists to impose even more regulations on greenhouse gas emissions from cars, power plants, and other sources. Pretty soon we will all be riding our bikes to work.
So what does this listing of the polar bears mean exactly? For starters, it means more expensive electricity, gaoline, and fossil fuels. I mean, really - do we honestly want to pay more than $3.95 a gallon? I truly think that some people just don't get this simple fact. All global warming legislation will do is ramp up costs - if global warming even exists. You know, back in the 70s or so, people thought the earth was under "global cooling." What's next? "Global Temperature Inconsistency?" Man, this earth is so unpredictable... who would have thought we have different temperatures each day? This is way too much for me.
Don't get me wrong - I love polar bears. They are absolutely adorable. It's just too bad they will never know they are being used as a tactic for environmentalists to gain even more legislative power - so we can be prohibited even more from drilling for more oil and trying to lower gas prices. Nah, we should stick to high prices. Apparently it's more fun that way.
Yes, now global warming has a "face" to it, as some people say. I'm glad polar bears now can represent such a legitimate agenda.

EMG Reds Outing
Okay, I had to steal Allie's Red's pic.
Don't be deceived by Rodger's happy face... it was only a matter of time until he realized that the Indians were going down! Overall, it was a fun, exciting game though.. especially considering the Reds WON! Six in a row... longest winning streak of the year. And, it is the first sweep ever of the Indians. Adam Dunn is finally starting to hit those home runs. The pitching is finally starting to solidify while the defense makes great plays.
And most surprising of all - it's all happening without Keppinger. Go Reds!!

Out from apartment and into summer
After four hours of sleep and nearly five hours of loading random objects into my car, I finally moved out of the apartment. Today marked the last day I would it.. at least for now. After fulfilling a nine month lease, I can say that I really enjoyed it.. and both of us, my roommate and I, are going to miss it. It was definitely an overall better deal than being in the dorm rooms!
For the rest of the year, I will be back at my parents' house while finishing my last year at NKU. I can't wait to get my marketing and journalism degree - and to see just what the future has in store for me.
As I was writing my final paper for school about my experience as an EMG intern, I realized how much I have grown from this experience. I was a bit of a different person before I started the internship - I was willing to get on the phone, but I was not nearly as comfortable with it as I am now. I knew somewhat of how the public relations field worked - but not nearly as much as I know now.
And most importantly, I knew that hard work pays off - but not to the extent that I have seen it pay off at EMG. Here's to the summer and even more great experiences!

Waco TV Interview Video Clip
After successfully arranging the interview with KWTX and Waco's chapter president for AHU (Association of Health Underwriters), Shelley Dunbar, I managed to find the video clip today online. This clip highlights the main points with the current health care crisis throughout the country - and, of course, especially in Texas. Hope you enjoy it!

From one busy week to another
So this week I will be taking a bit of a haitus from EMG, as I have to study/take exams constantly.. ohhh the excitement. I will try to get a couple things for work done here and there in the mean time, but since school is just oh-so-exciting.. I'll see if I can get away from it.
But hey, this is a great article in El Paso Times I found that was launched this past Saturday regarding the Texas Association of Health Underwriters' 20th annual convention..and the better part about it - I arranged it for the reporter! check it out if interested:
http://www.elpasotimes.com/business/ci_9135496
This is a nice hit for them which outlined the big issues for small businesses regarding health care. A nice way to transition from last week to this one in seeing this article...
Even though it's going to be a busy week for me, hopefully I can start pitching my feature story that is nearly complete - addressing the health care issues for small businesses, brokers, consumers, etc. Oh, and if you have never heard of CPU, Inc. before - you will. I used their current situation regarding health care to illustrate the struggle small businesses are facing. This will undoubtedly be the most PR they have ever received. You're welcome.
Hopefully I can have that posted up here soon for all to read - and for all to learn about CPU. Oh, and let's not forget the current health care situation small businesses face. That is pretty important too.

It's the little things...
It truly is the little things that make the biggest difference in life. If you keep working hard on day-to-day projects, remain motivated, and hold your head high - big things will happen.
Hit.. after hit.. after hit. That pretty much sums up my week in a nutshell! I had a pretty productive week, if I may say so myself. Ever since my two pretty big hits with Dr.Krane's a month and a half ago or so, I haven't had any other ones until this week. The work I put into organizing the many TAHU kits I sent out a couple weeks ago are finally paying off. It's always important to follow-up with the contacts in some way, and I made sure to remind them of the kit and, if anything, to always keep us in mind as resources. And a couple weeks later - bam. I set up three interviews this week with the TAHU board - first with the Austin Statesmen, then, Amarillo News, and finally El Paso Times. Although, today, I did get a call from a tv station in Waco that I am currently arranging.
Even though this week has been busy and stressful with school and work, it definitely was productive - three hits for TAHU (and one in the making), finally finished a feature article and press release with UHC (now that I received the needed info), and, as I just found out, got an A on my exam I took this morning. Yep - good week! Oh - and presented my FINAL group project of the semester!
If it's one thing to learn from life, learn this: little things you do today - they'll pay off tomorrow. Keep at it.
